Early March 2012

Late afternoons seem to be fishing the best with the temperatures warming up and the fly life coming alive from 2pm onwards...........

Buzzers still continue to do the best but mainly later on on in the afternoons. Early mornings and upto lunchtime stick with the lures unless you can clearly see fish feeding on the surface, still keep your eye on the wind direction as this as been a key to were the fish have been feeding. Best flies on a floating line have been black skinny buzzers, black blobs and the white egg fly. Intermediates lines fished around the 4 to 8 foot mark try and fish with minkies, skinny damsels or any other lightly tied lure. This weeks picture is Mr Peter Astbury with a "over wintered" Pennine brownie weighing just under 9lb, he gets on the gallery not because of the size of the fish (we've had bigger out this week) but because of the time the fish has been swimming in the lake, I would estimate the fish has been in for almost 1 year!! you almost feel sorry for the fish don't you. I bet you are thinking how does he know this..... simple I have only stocked brownies at 12lb+ so far this season and this one falls well short of the mark. Back to the fish averages they work out at 4lb 3oz per fish taken with a average catch of 8 fish per angler. Tag fish has paid out £115.00 this week with a blue tag being the biggest prize.
